On Friday, June 16th Anton Corbijn will be inducted into the BFF Hall of Fame. We are happy to share that Reiner Holzemer will give his laudatory speech.
"Anton Corbijn is known for immortalizing some of the greatest artists of our time. The iconic portraits of musicians, directors and artists such as Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Tom Waits, U2, the Rolling Stones, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Gerhard Richter, Ai Weiwei, Marlene Dumas and others. are highly valued because the photographer manages in a unique way to capture the charisma and soul of the personalities he portrays between spontaneous blurring, rough graininess and hard contrasts.
In 2006, Anton Corbijn began work on his first award-winning feature film, CONTROL, about the life and death of Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis. Corbijn has since filmed THE AMERICAN, starring George Clooney (2010), A MOST WANTED MAN (2014), and LIFE, about James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock (2015). Corbijn recently completed his first documentary, Squaring The Circle, about iconic album design studio Hipgnosis, for release in June 2023. And he plans his fifth feature film for the end of 2023.
Anton Corbijn's appointment to the BFF Hall of Fame was due to his high artistic standards, his career as a photographer and, at the same time, as a filmmaker.
Esther Haase and Anton Corbijn will be inducted into the BFF Hall of Fame and honored for their style-defining work. Both honorary members will show an exhibition with works from their extensive photo and film work that has been put together exclusively for the event. Their laudators are Sebastian Lux (head Foundation F.C. Gundlach) and Reiner Holzemer (director). Both artists are present."
