Lars Eidinger is one of Germany's most extraordinary actors. In LARS EIDINGER – TO BE OR NOT TO BE director Reiner Holzemer gives us an up-close and personal look at this exceptionally talented actor and his body of work. Here, for the first time, Eidinger reveals his unique approach to developing a new role and gives viewers an intimate insight into his acting, which centres around his love for improvisation and his unparalleled physical and emotional intensity. What drives Lars Eidinger? How does he make his roles his own? How does he achieve such haunting emotionality?
Holzemer accompanied the actor with his camera for nine months. He documents him developing the main role of Jedermann at the 2021 Salzburg Festival and his regular collaboration with the director Thomas Ostermeier, who is artistic director at the Schaubühne in Berlin. With their productions of Hamlet and Richard III, they wrote theatre history.
Since his cinematic debut in EVERYONE ELSE by Maren Ade, Lars Eidinger has been a regular feature in celebrated films alongside international stars such as Juliette Binoche, Isabelle Huppert and Adam Driver. Director Reiner Holzemer also joined him on set in Paris for the shoot of IRMA VEP, a series by Olivier Assayas.
